Last Year, WWC member Alex Long climbed the distance of Mount Everest on the Jacob’s Ladder in one day! He did this challenge for fun as part of the WWC February Fitness Challenge. The original challenge was to climb the distance of Mount Everest on the Jacob’s Ladder throughout the entire month. This year, Alex wants to climb the mountain 2 times in 2 days! What an incredible feat this will be! Alex is doing this to raise funds for CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, a charity near and dear to his and many of our hearts.
CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is the only organization exclusively fundraising for CancerCare Manitoba. While CancerCare Manitoba works in partnership with Manitoba Health, some programs and services may not be eligible for government funding. CancerCare Manitoba Foundation raises funds to bridge this gap and help deliver the best research, patient care, treatment and support for all Manitobans and their families living with cancer.
Each year more than 6,000 Manitobans receive a cancer diagnosis. Your continued support helps CancerCare Manitoba and its partners prepare for an estimated 50% increase in the number of people diagnosed and living with cancer over the next decade.
By supporting me with a donation, you are helping to support CancerCare Manitoba in its work to change lives and change the course of cancer in our province.
Every donation -no matter how big or small- is critical as we work together to stay ahead of this disease.
Thank you for your consideration.
Our inaugural Keira’s Winter Klassic held February 3rd, 2018 in honour of Keira Bond, was an unqualified success! The amazing ringette community, and our greater Manitoba community, outdid themselves in support of this first-time event. Together we raised over $37,000 towards pediatric brain cancer research!
Keira was just 10 years old when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Despite the devastating diagnosis, within a few short months, Keira had decided she wanted to raise funds to help support others with cancer: Keira’s Krusade had begun (www.keiraskrusade.com). Having played ringette from the young age of five, Keira possessed incredible determination, resilience, and strength. These traits served her well during her illness.
Tragically, in June 2017, Keira was taken from us, six short months after her diagnosis. During times of extreme hardship, sport is very often a mobilizing force – and our ringette community did not disappoint. Many individuals within our community immediately wanted to reach out and help. Knowing Keira’s joy and passion for the game of ringette, a U12 ringette tournament was the perfect fit!
We are very excited as we prepare for our 3rd annual Keira’s Winter Klassic. We look forward to once again partnering with our wonderful community to help support Manitoba children diagnosed with a brain tumour. All proceeds from Keira’s Winter Klassic will go to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation via Keira’s Krusade to help fight pediatric brain cancer.
Thank you for your support. Let’s do this for Keira!
Teams wanting to register for the tournament should check the MRA website.

Hi, my name is Sarah, I am a goalie and I want to make a difference!
Over the past three years I have been fundraising for Pediatric Cancer research at CancerCare Manitoba. Using my role as a goalie I started on a journey to help boys and girls like me by raising money for cancer patients and their families.
Each year I personally donate: $1 for each puck I let in and $5 for each shutout during regular season games.
Each year I hope to exceed the previous, but I can’t do it without your generosity. I ask that you support me in the fight against childhood cancer. Match my end of season donation or make your own personal contribution.
The funds raised for pediatric research help CancerCare Manitoba’s pediatric clinical trials taking place which truly are saving lives. Donations will enable CCMF to fund nearly 50% of the trials available for participation in Manitoba.

Everyone is touched by cancer, I’m one 13 year old girl, imagine what our willingness and compassion can accomplish together.
