While the Kendra’s Walk committee is saddened to announce that the regular community walk will not be occurring this year due to COVID-19, we are pleased to inform you that we will be moving our annual walk to an online platform. Roughly a week before the walk the Kendra’s Krew will release a video explaining our initiatives for this year. We are introducing a hashtags challenge.
Supporters of Kendra’s Walk will be encouraged to post throwbacks from past walks, photos of their merchandise or simply them wearing purple with the first round of hashtags to nominate friends, family, or other community members to participate. These will be posted on Instagram stories, where participants are encouraged to tag @kendraswalk, and say, “I nominate __ to walk wearing purple on May 22nd #48hoursForKendra”. We recommend that participants nominate 5 – 10 people.
May 22nd at 2 pm we are encouraging participants to take a small amount of time out of their day to go on a walk with their family, and post about it. The second hashtag (#KWaranTEENSagainstcancer) shows that they completed the challenge and inspires/reminds others to complete the challenge as well. The goal of the hashtags are to create a sense of community while simultaneously increasing awareness and participation. Whoever participates is encouraged to tag the Kendra’s Walk Instagram on their stories. Everyone is encouraged to deck themselves out in purple!
This effort will be advertised by Ace Burpee in order to reach more people and help attract interest! Further information and more details will be announced closer to the date of the walk.
Our online store, selling Kendra’s Walk merchandise is open until April 29, 2020. Please consider ordering merchandise to wear for when you participate in our Hashtag Challenge!A walk raising money and awareness for teens living with cancer:

Cancer unfortunately touches us all. Something James Fitzgerald is all too familiar with. After losing three loved ones to cancer, James decided to give his golf game a new meaning in their honour.
“I decided at the start of a golf season I would donate a certain amount for each birdie I got to cancer research,” says James.
A simple concept that has meant so much to James and changed the way he looks at getting a birdie.
“Each time I get a birdie I track it and I reflect upon the special people I’m honouring. It’s become a celebration of their life in a round of golf. I think of them when I mark my birdie and it brings me joy.”
After discussing his personal birdie challenge with his golfing partner, the two were inspired to start a grass roots program in support of CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
All funds raised and donated to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation remain in Manitoba to support CancerCare’s internationally recognized team of health professionals who provide outstanding care for patients and their families. The Foundation shares CancerCare’s bold vision, “A world free of cancer” and the goal that no life is cut short by cancer, a complex set of more than 200 diseases.
“Bucks Fore Birdies can add a whole new meaning to your game of golf. We hope you’ll join us and make the pledge to help those touched by cancer here in Manitoba,” encourages James.
