Sex & the City’s Miranda Speaks at Guardian Angel Gala
Award-winning actress Cynthia Nixon will talk about her personal experience with cancer
CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and the Guardian Angel Benefit Committee are thrilled to announce that Cynthia Nixon, the actress best known for her award-winning portrayal of Miranda on HBO’s Sex and the City, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s event on Thursday, October 25th.
Nixon, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, is a passionate advocate for a cure.
Guardian Angel Committee Chair Ida Albo says that Nixon’s dedication to speaking out about this terrible disease, along with her willingness to share her experience, made her a perfect fit for the Guardian Angel Benefit, a dinner and fashion show that raises money for the treatment and prevention of women’s cancer.
“This year’s Guardian Angel event will carry a strong message about the things you can do everyday to keep this disease away from you,” Albo says. “Ms. Nixon is an excellent ambassador in this regard and we are looking forward to hearing the moving story about her own path to recovery.”
The 21st Guardian Angel Benefit will be Nixon’s first appearance in Winnipeg.
In addition to a fabulous keynote speaker, this year’s event will include a special fashion show that features cancer survivors wearing the latest in active wear.
The Guardian Angel Benefit has raised over 4.5 million dollars for cancer treatment and research in Manitoba. Tickets for the event are on sale today, and are available online at www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca or by calling (204)787-1800 or toll-free 1-877-407-2223.
