Kendra’s Walk – the Kilometres for Kendra Challenge
Crush cancer step by step. Let’s come together to crush cancer with every step we take. Through this initiative, we aim to encourage as many teens across Manitoba as possible to walk for awareness and raise funds for teens living with cancer. Your participation in this walk will aid in both raising funds for research looking at eliminating and preventing cancer, while also honouring those who have struggled with cancer.

Kendra McBain was an extraordinary individual. In 2006, at age 15, she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer – alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Kendra had a goal to raise money for a space at CancerCare Manitoba designed uniquely for teens that they can call home as they were receiving treatment. In May 2009, Kendra organized the inaugural Kendra’s Walk, which took place at St. John’s Ravenscourt School. In its first year alone, the Walk raised over $160,000. This was enough to finance a teenager’s room at CancerCare Manitoba, and further initiate a trust fund that continues to raise money in support of cancer research and other needs for teens living with cancer. After battling cancer for three years, Kendra passed away in December 2009, at the age of 18. Her spirit, impact, and legacy continue to make a difference. Almost 13 years later, the Kendra’s Walk Committee continues to honour her legacy by organizing the annual walk and other fundraising initiatives to support teens with cancer. To date, over $923,000 has been raised, with all proceeds going towards CancerCare Manitoba Foundation – Kendra’s Walk.
