Get Involved..
Those two words have an astonishing impact on the future of all fundraising efforts to support people who are impacted by this onerous disease. Fundraising that supports individuals, families and those working to sure Cancer. Funds that support not only research but programs and services often out of the scope of government support. Funds that will help the 6000 plus newly diagnosed Manitobans this year. And let’s not forget the others who are already diagnosed. And, stats that tell us within the next decade that number will increase by 50%. These figures are in Manitoba alone. Not across Canada. Manitoba, where the population is minor compared to Ontario, BC and Quebec.
The Three of Us are proud to continue our fundraising efforts for the fourth year with “Kick Cancer Dressage”. The funds – over $9,500 – in three years. And we aim high. Hopefully $3,500 this year.
Get Involved – that’s the course of action.
A big shout out to our riders and their families who without fail continue to engage in our efforts. And to all the new riders this year who will choose to get involved. And their families who support them. Such a small thing to do. And the rewards are overwhelming.
Thank you for “Getting Involved” …

The Task
To complete the goal set last year of swimming from Grand Beach to Gimli, Manitoba. The distance is about 26km and depending on conditions it might be shortened to about 22km which is the distance to Willow Point.
Last August, the team made it about 16km until my shoulders seized up.
Lessons learned; More dry land training, increase my shoulder mobility, shorter feeding breaks and less dilly dallying along the way!
Why try again?
Last year was a great success but I feel the need to give it another shot. When researchers are working on the next breakthrough, many roadblocks pop up along the way but they continue on. I feel the same way. Just because we came up short last year doesn’t mean the towel has to be thrown in. Our team will be ready to go and the additional funds raised will hopefully make that much more of a difference in the quest for the next breakthrough.
I was first diagnosed with NHL in 1999 and treated with Chemotherapy in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Health Sciences Centre. Things went well and I was cancer free for 20 years and then I had a re-occurrence in 2019. On January 10th, 2020 I underwent a stem cell transplant at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta and here we are 6 years later! This is a photo of my wife Laura and I ringing the gong in the courtyard of the new Arthur E.J. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary last January celebrating the 5 year good health milestone.
Thank you for visiting my page and your continued support!
