CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Privacy Policy

Our Commitment

CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (“Foundation”) is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of its donors, employees, volunteers, potential supporters and other stakeholders. We value the trust of those we deal with, and of the public, and recognize that maintaining this trust requires that we be transparent in how we treat the information that you choose to share with us.

This policy outlines our practices regarding the handling, protection, maintenance, and administration of personal information collected by the Foundation.

What is personal information?

Personal information is any information that can be used to identify, distinguish, or contact a specific individual. Personal information can include facts about, or related to, an individual, as well as an individual’s opinions or beliefs. Personal information does not include publicly available information (for example, names, addresses and telephone numbers which are published in telephone directories) or business contact information (for example, the name, title, business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization).

Our privacy practices

The Foundation collects a limited amount of personal information about its donors and potential supporters, including name, title, address, telephone number, past donations and other relevant contact information. This personal information is collected in order to comply with Canada Revenue Agency requirements, to provide donors with tax receipts, with periodic stewardship information and recognition, to provide donors and potential supporters with information about Foundation activities, and to promote opportunities where donors and potential supporters may support the Foundation.

Personal information collected by the Foundation is kept in confidence. Our employees and volunteers are authorized to access personal information and safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary. We also take measures to ensure the integrity of this information is maintained. We collect, use and disclose personal information only for the purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in light of the circumstances. We do not rent, sell or trade mailing lists or other personal information.

Donor information is stored on third party specialized software from a recognized industry provider with rigorous security measures to protect donor and financial information. They are responsible for hosting, regular maintenance and ongoing upgrades to improve efficiency and security. Limited donor information is stored on the Foundation’s secured, internal shared drive.

Consent

Consent is required for the collection of personal information. It may be provided explicitly—through written, verbal, or electronic means—by the individual or an authorized representative. Alternatively, consent may be implied when a reasonable person can infer agreement from the individual’s actions or inaction. Individuals have the right to opt out of the use of their personal information, except where such use is mandated by law. Withdrawing consent does not impact any prior actions taken or obligations incurred based on previously granted consent.

Website and Electronic Commerce

The Foundation uses password protocols and encryption software to protect personal and other information we receive online. Our software is routinely updated to maximize protection of such information. Donations are accepted online using secure third-party gateway providers which are required to comply with Payment Card industry security standards.
