Your support this World Cancer Day is your chance to help Manitobans like Nathan.
Last spring after experiencing concerning symptoms, Nathan’s doctor referred him to a specialist who recommended a colonoscopy. Nathan has a history of cancer in his family, yet still, the test results came as a shock. He had a large growth and after a biopsy, was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
Within weeks Nathan began radiation and chemotherapy. The side effects were challenging, and he experienced some very difficult days. He persevered thanks to the support of his family, community and generous donors who support cancer research in our province.
Donors’ support of research has ensured Nathan could access and receive a customized treatment plan that specifically targets cancer cells at a molecular level.
“I know how important donors are to supporting the work done at CancerCare Manitoba. That’s why I’m sharing my story.”

Nathan’s treatment required a pause for a couple of months so he could regain his strength. Then, in October he began a second chemotherapy regime that lasted three months. Two days before Christmas and on his daughter’s eighth birthday, he took his last round of medications.
Nathan’s journey with cancer isn’t over. Donor support of research today can make a difference.
As you are reading this, Nathan is in the midst of undergoing a series of scans and tests to determine how effective the treatment was. He’ll receive the results a few weeks from now.
As Nathan and his family await what the future holds, he knows he will likely be undergoing major surgery as part of his treatment plan. He’s determined to do whatever it takes to get better.
“I want to see my kids graduate and be there for all the other important milestones in their lives.”
Donor support is essential to ensuring Manitobans with cancer and their families have access to the latest and most effective treatments and vital emotional and physical support programs.
Please consider joining Manitobans from across the province this World Cancer Day in supporting Nathan, his family and other Manitobans like them.a
