On Tuesday, April 27, a sold-out crowd of more than 800 guests attended CancerCare Manitoba Foundation's "A Gold-Plated Evening" in support of prostate cancer research.

This bi-annual gala dinner is the signature fundraiser for CancerCare Manitoba's work in the area of prostate cancer. Proceeds from previous evenings helped establish the Dr. Ernest W. Ramsey Manitoba Prostate Centre (CancerCare's state-of-the-art facility providing the newest treatments and supportive care services) and established the Manitoba Prostate Tumour Bank.

Proceeds from this year's dinner will support continued investment in the tumour bank, which facilitates research critical to detection, diagnosis and improvements in patient care. As CancerCare Manitoba's President and CEO Dr. Dhali Dhaliwal said, "Without research, we can only offer yesterday’s treatment."

Special guest speaker Rick Mercer, "Canada's Unofficial Opposition", drew on the best moments from his show, The Rick Mercer Report, taking everyone behind the scenes of classic Canadian moments, including his Talking To Americans specials.

The Gala, chaired by Ida Albo and Al Snyder and emceed by CBC Meteorologist John Sauder, was generously sponsored by AstraZeneca Canada Inc. and Paul's Hauling Ltd., with media sponsorship by the Winnipeg Free Press. Included in the auction prizes was a Rolex watch, courtesy of Independent Jewellers.

CancerCare Manitoba Foundation is grateful to all the sponsors and guests who contributed to this important fundraiser benefiting all Manitoba men and their families living with prostate cancer.
